7tips Retaining Heat and Clothes for Winter Walking
There are many people who go for a walk in the cold days. But do you know why?

Taking exercise in the cold days promotes metabolism effectively because the body try to warm the body harder than the warm days.

You cannot enjoy walking in the summer for a long time but you can do it in the winter.

And feeling cold wind when the body is getting warm is really comfortable so it is one of the reasons why walking in the winter is popular.

Let me introduce walking clothes retaining heat well to make the most of the effect of walking in the winter.

7tips Retaining Heat and Clothes for Winter Walking

1. Be careful of sudden temperature changes

People’s body trembles when feeling cold because the body tries to prevent from losing body temperature by muscular contraction and promoting blood pressure.

It is quite dangerous to move suddenly from a warm place to a cold place because it leads to sudden changes of the state of muscles or blood vessels. Especially people with high blood pressure should be more careful of it.

To take exercise having strain on the muscles because of the cold can lead to injury. So it is necessary to wear warm and heat retaining clothes when you go for a walk in the winter. I recommend you wear a mask so as not to inhale too much cold air.

2. Layering for temperature control

Wearing many layers of clothing makes you harder to move and decreases body heat due to a lot of perspiration. However, you should not go for a walk wearing light clothes.

It is important to wear layers of clothes and regulate body temperature depending on the situation. When you start walking, you should wear several layers of clothes so as not to get your body strained due to the cold. And as your body gets accustomed to cold,
Take off some clothes to regulate body temperature. Feeling little chilly would be good.

I recommend underwear retaining heat, sweat shirt and pants or training suits suitable for exercise, windbreaker jackets and pants for the layering style. And you should wear a light backpack to put your clothes in after taking off some clothes.

3. Warm head

I recommend you wear a knit cap so as not to lose heat when you go for a walk in the winter. Warming the head is very effective for keeping body temperature and it can protect the head when you fall down.

Pairing a knit cap with an ear warmer is better. However, it is dangerous to walk listening to music on earphones because it makes you harder to hear sound around you. So be sure to see if you can hear sound well before starting when you wear an ear warmer, knit cap.

4. Warm neck

Since there are thick blood vessels around neck, it is important not to expose the neck to the cold air. Cold neck leads to making your exercise ineffective due to bad posture or stiff neck.

To put it the other way around, it is said that you can avoid cooling blood vessels around neck and keep body temperature with relatively light clothes if you warm around the neck.

I do not recommend scarf because it can bother your walking, so a neck warmer is better for warming around the neck. Although there are many kinds of neck warmers, you should choose one which is easy to wash because people sweat a lot around the neck.

5. Warm hands

Little children’s hands and feet get warm when they fall asleep because their body regulates body temperature by discharging heat in feet or hands. In the same way, the body discharges heat into hands or feet as the body temperature goes up by taking exercise.

It means that terminal parts of the body are easy to lose heat. Cold hands leads to pain, and it makes you harder to go for a walk. So I recommend you wear knit gloves which are easy to take off. And it is important to keep warm blood vessels around the wrist. You should cover your wrists with a wrist band or something so as not to expose the gap between your gloves and your jacket.

6. Warm feet

Since feet are terminal body parts, it is easy to lose heat as well as hands. And there are a lot of nerves around feet, so getting cold feet disturbs your walking.

Thick socks are effective for keeping feet warm and they reduce impact as a cushion. In case of people sweating easily, five toed-socks would be better because they absorb sweat and prevent feet from losing heat.

Even if it is cold, you should not put a heating pad in shoes because it makes you harder to walk and disturbs your concentration due to excessive heat.

7. Be careful not to lose heat while taking a break

People often get cold while taking a break. To take a break outside while walking leads to decrease in body temperature. Once the body lost heat, it takes long to get warm again and sweat makes the body temperature decrease.

So I recommend you should take a towel to wipe off sweat when you go for a walk. While taking a break, you should move your legs so as not to lose heat. I think having hot drink would be better to warm body too.

How was that?

A small scheme can make walking in the winter comfortable and effective. You should take up cooling down exercise after walking to adjust your body condition.
